Medicare Supplement insurance, explained.
Medicare Supplement insurance, also called Medigap, helps pay some of the costs left to you by Original Medicare, such as deductibles, copayments and coinsurance.
Our local team can explain the options we offer and help you compare coverage and premiums.

Medigap works alongside Original Medicare. It is not used with a Medicare Advantage plan. The plan letter identifies the benefits included in a policy, so different plan letters cover different combinations of costs.
You pay a separate premium for the policy in addition to your Medicare premiums. Medigap generally does not cover long-term care, routine dental or vision care, hearing aids or private-duty nursing.
Prescription drug coverage is separate.
Medigap policies sold today do not include prescription drug coverage. A separate Part D plan can provide that coverage.
For standalone drug-plan comparisons and enrollment, use the Medicare resources on our prescription drug plans page.

Your six-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period starts the first month you have Part B and are 65 or older. This is a one-time period; it does not return each fall.
Outside this period, an insurer may review your health history and could decline your application. Federal protections and state rules can provide other opportunities to buy or change coverage.
