How Smokers Can Get a Life Insurance Policy With Non-Smoking Rates
For nearly all of time, smokers have had to pay more for life insurance – a lot more. On average, smokers pay double what non-smokers do for the same life insurance coverage.
This is extremely frustrating for tobacco users, and it’s even more frustrating for those who plan on quitting but can’t get a break with the monthly insurance premiums in the meantime.
Until now, your options have been to go without life insurance until you’ve completely stopped smoking for at least a year so that you can qualify for non-smoking rates, or you just have to give in and pay way more for coverage.
As you’ve probably guessed, an awesome new life insurance policy has come onto the market that actually gives smokers a chance, and we’d like to explain how it works.
Non-Smoking Life Insurance Rates for Smokers
The plan is a final expense life insurance policy, which is designed to cover the cost of your funeral and any remaining bills you might have.
Typical final expense life insurance policies have a death benefit of up to $30,000.
When you purchase this policy – even if you’re a tobacco-user – you pay the non-smoking rate.
You’re then given 3 years to quit smoking. If you provide evidence that you’ve quit smoking for at least 12 months straight before those 3 years is up, you get to keep the non-smoking rate!
If you’re someone who wants to quit smoking but just needs a little bit of time, this life insurance policy gives you a chance. You’re able to access much better rates, and you have plenty of time to quit smoking on your own terms.
What Happens If I Don’t Quit Smoking?
If you don’t quit smoking, your plan will automatically adjust to a new death benefit.
So, here’s an example. Let’s say you purchase a policy with a $10,000 death benefit. If you don’t quit smoking by the third year, your death benefit would drop to $6,185.80. This allows your monthly premium to stay the same.
If you wish, you are given the option to keep the same death benefit, but your monthly premium would increase accordingly.
While this does stink a little bit, it still allows you the opportunity to pay non-smoking rates for the first 3 years, which is a huge savings compared to smoking rates.
Plus, if you need that extra bit of motivation to finally quit smoking, this can put that fire behind you. It gives you a deadline to strive for, and for many of us, that’s exactly what we need!
What If I Use Nicotine Products That Aren’t Cigarettes?
While every life insurance company looks at nicotine products a little differently, the policy we’re highlighting today counts all forms of nicotine.
So, whether you use cigarettes, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco, snuff, nicotine chewing gums, patches, or e-cigarettes, those all count as tobacco products.
You’d have to be completely off of all nicotine for at least 12 months to keep your non-smoking rates.
This policy is available for anyone ages 50-80, which is the perfect time to make sure you have a funeral plan in place.
How Much Is the Monthly Premium?
Monthly premiums for this product vary depending on the following factors:
- Death benefit amount
