Here’s what’s happening across Decatur and Central Illinois for the 2026 Fourth of July. From live music and family activities to large fireworks displays, these celebrations offer something for everyone.

Decatur: Nelson Park Fireworks Over Lake Decatur

Spend the Fourth of July at Nelson Park, where a full day of activities leads into an evening concert and fireworks.

Locations: Nelson Park, Splash Cove, Scovill Zoo, Overlook Adventure Park, Devon Lakeshore Amphitheater (Decatur, IL)

Event Schedule:

  • 9:30 AM – Scovill Zoo opens (last admission at 5 PM, closes at 6 PM)
  • 12:00 PM – Splash Cove open swim begins
  • 10:00 AM – Overlook Adventure Park opens (mini golf, ropes course)
  • 6:00 PM – Doors open at Devon Lakeshore Amphitheater
  • 7:00 PM – Concert: Decade of Decadence at the Devon

Devon Lakeshore Amphitheater Holiday Weekend Lineup

The Devon Lakeshore Amphitheater hosts three nights of live music leading into and through the Fourth of July, making it a centerpiece of the weekend in Decatur.

Mt. Zion: Blue Ribbon Night

A family-friendly celebration the night before the Fourth.

Location: Fletcher Park, Mt. Zion, IL

Event Schedule (July 3, 2026):

  • 5:00 PM – Gates open
  • 6:15 PM – Live music begins
  • 9:15 PM – Live music ends
  • Sunset – Fireworks

Peoria: Red, White and Boom

One of the largest fireworks shows in the Midwest returns to the Illinois River, with viewing available from both Peoria and East Peoria riverfronts.

Locations: Peoria Riverfront and Liberty Park (Peoria, IL); RiverFront Park (East Peoria, IL)

Event Schedule (Peoria Riverfront):

  • All Day – Street closures
  • 5:00 PM – Vendors open and music begins
  • 6:00 PM – Live music at Liberty Park stage
  • 6:30 PM – Dance party on the riverfront
  • 7:00 PM – Illinois River closes to boat traffic
  • 8:30 PM – Bob Michel Bridge closes
  • 9:00 PM – Military flyover
  • 9:20 PM – National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance
  • 9:30 PM – Fireworks from barges in the Illinois River

  • All Day – Bass Pro Drive closed
  • 5:00 PM – Vendors and music begin
  • 7:00 PM – River closes to boat traffic
  • 8:30 PM – Additional road closures
  • 9:00 PM – Military flyover

  • 9:30 PM – Fireworks

Springfield: Fourth of July Weekend Events

Springfield offers a full weekend of events across multiple locations, with fireworks on both July 3 and July 4.

Locations: Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site (Petersburg, IL); Robin Roberts Stadium, Centennial Park, Knights Action Park, Washington Park, Lake Springfield Marina (Springfield, IL)

Key Events:

  • July 3–5: Lincoln’s New Salem Independence Day Celebration
  • July 3–4: Springfield Lucky Horseshoes games at Robin Roberts Stadium with fireworks after games
  • July 4 (Morning): Freedom Run at Centennial Park

Mt. Pulaski Fourth of July Celebration

A traditional small-town celebration with activities throughout the day and fireworks at night.
