Downtown building undergoes facelift

Originally published November 6, 2013. This story is part of the Sams/Hockaday archive.

In 2013, Jeff Sams and John Hockaday invested in renovating the agency’s downtown Decatur building rather than moving elsewhere.

A Decatur Herald & Review report described work on the exterior, windows, heating and cooling systems, and the second-floor offices. The project reflected the owners’ commitment to keeping the business downtown as the city improved the surrounding streets.

The renovation also brought parts of the building’s history back into view, including an old blue star uncovered near the entrance.

This is a summary of historical reporting, not a description of current vacancies, tenants or building access.
